1989 Medical degree at the School of Medicine, University of Bologna.
1990-1993 PhD student at the Institute of Human Physiology of the University of Ancona, directed by Prof. Tullio Manzoni. During this period, he participated to immunocytochemical and tract-tracing studies aimed at investigating several aspects of the anatomical and neurochemical organization of the somatosensory system.
1994-1995 Post-doctorate fellow at the Institute of Human Physiology of the University of Ancona
1995-2002 Ricercatore at the Institute of Human Physiology of the University of Ancona. During this period, he committed himself to the study of the cellular and subcellular localization of glutamate and GABA plasmamembrane transporters in mammal neocortex.
1997-1998 Training Mobility Research (TMR) fellowship at the Department of Cellular Neuroscience of MaxDelbrück-Center for Molecular Medicine in Berlin, directed by Prof. Helmut Kettenmann. Here, heinvestigated some of the mechanisms underlying microglial activation upon acute and chronic exposure to different pathological conditions.
1998 Awarded with the annual prize of the Italian Physiological Society (SIF) dedicated to young scientists.
From 2002
Associate Professor of Physiology at the School of Pharmacy of the University of Urbino “Carlo
Bo”, where he teaches general physiology course.
Currently, he works at the Department of Earth, Life and Environmental Sciences (DiSTeVA),
directed by Prof. Riccardo Cuppini, following two principal lines of research: 1) on cellular and
animal models, studying the regulatory effects of tocopherols on signalling pathways and central
nervous system development; 2) in humans, studying the role of behavioural factors, i.e. physical
activity and nutrition, in modulating the neuroendocrine stress response.
2006-2013 Coordinator of the PhD course in “Mechanisms of cellular reguilatiuon: mnorpho-functional and evolutive aspects” at the University of Urbino “Carlo Bo”
